Sinner?

Am I Really a Sinner?
Michael Wittmer, Ph.D., Professor of Systematic & Historical Theology provides clear and understandable answers to today’s difficult questions often in two minutes or less.

People who ask this question actually are saying, “I’m a pretty good person, you know. My good points outweigh my bad points, so therefore God should accept me into His Heaven.

Most of us have a fairly high opinion of ourselves –especially compared with our neighbor, our spouse, or all those others whose short-comings we see daily. And the really bad people? Hitler, for instance? Why, we believe we are absolute saints compared with him, or Genghis Khan, or Jeffrey Dahmer! While few of us claim perfection for ourselves, we do tend to think that we’re better than the guy sitting next to us.

The thing is, God doesn’t ever compare us to the guy sitting next to us. Nor to Hitler or to Dahmer. He only has one standard for entry into Heaven, and that is perfection. He is perfect, and He allows only perfection into heaven. Ask the question this way: “Am I really perfect?” Then you will get a clearer picture of what the answer must be.

So are you perfect, or are you a sinner? Have you been a sinner your whole life? Well, does anyone have to TEACH a two-year-old to bite, to lie, to fight? Imperfection is born in us. We receive it in the DNA we inherited from our parents, they from theirs... all the way back to Adam and Eve. Adam sinned, and died. We –each one of us –sin and we also will die.

Animals only have the physical –when they die, that’s it. But we humans, “made in the image of God,” we have both spiritual and physical aspects to our being. When Adam first sinned, he first died spiritually, and later also died physically. We, born in sin, are dead spiritually, even though alive physically right now. That is, until we are “born again.” That once-popular phrase is quite accurate because all of us “children of Adam” are dead in our spirits, until we become “alive in Christ.”So yes, you are a sinner... dead in your sins. But you CAN become a sinner saved by grace and “alive in Christ.”

Believe He died for you, and that His death is enough to satisfy God’s need for a Perfect Payment for your sins. Believe He died, was buried, and rose to life again. He now sits on a throne in Heaven, waiting for the appointed Day when He will come back to rule this earth with justice and righteousness. Trust what God says... and be born again –spiritually.

This new spiritually-alive life will be a life beyond what you ever thought it could be. Poets have written
Sky above is softer blue,
Earth around is sweeter green;
Something lives in every hue
Christ-less eyes have never seen.
And It’s very true. “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him”(I Cor. 2:9).

Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ because you will then be on the one, the only “Highway to Heaven.” And life on that road is full of joys and pleasures beyond your current imagination.
