What If God Is Watching?
If God is watching, he sees what you do. Nothing gets past him. God is
watching, not to catch you slipping up or to build a case against you. He
watches you for good. God tells us in the Bible, in 2 Chronicles 16:9,
that his eyes “range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose
hearts are fully committed to him.”
In the days before the Great Flood, when people had become so wicked
that God regretted making our world, his eyes scanned the earth and lit
up when they saw righteous Noah. The Bible says, “Noah found favor in
the eyes of the Lord” (Gen 6:8). So God enlisted Noah to build an ark
and save the world.
If God is watching, he not only sees what you do. He also sees what is
done to you. In Genesis 16, a pregnant Hagar fled from the jealous rage
of her mistress. Hagar had been used up and sent away. Where did she
fit in this world?
The angel of the Lord found her in the desert and told her to return
home, and that her unborn son would become a great nation. Hagar was
relieved and exclaimed, “You are the God who sees me” (Gen 16:13).
God saw Hagar when she alone in the desert, and God sees you. You are
never alone. You are seen.
